Happy Earth Day! Today we traveled to join several neighborhoods to participate in their Community Clean Up Days.
We started the day with Roland Park, where their civic league President Carol Riggs and many engaged neighbors worked on the park while we worked on crapemyrtle 'suckers'. Thanks to City of Norfolk Forester Michael Nentwich for the lesson on a skill that will have me traveling to several neighborhoods to help out on the 40,000+ trees needing some TLC.
Next we visit Park Place where civic league president Charles Johnson and several neighbors, young and younger, beautified areas on and around 35th Street (and I even worked on a few crapemyrtle trees before enjoying a refreshment at Newport Plaza, where Evelyn learned about the Pedal-a-Thon that was in progress on the new bike lane loop).
An amazing meal of fish, barbecue and fixins from the fine folks at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Angelic-Church-of-God-Christ/104913429551874 on 34th Street, (where we visited Friday night also to enjoy a wonderful play, CHOICES presented by their talented youth). Then on to Community Fun Day at Villa Heights with civic league President Lana Pressley, Mr. Abdullah and several friends from around Hampton Roads, Norfolk State University and Old Dominion University (my alma mater!).
Thank you for letting us join in today Roland Park, Park Place and Villa Heights. What a great way to spend the day... taking pride in our beautiful city and sharing the real vision of engagement and providing a credible, competent and honest Delegate for the 89th.
